About Move with Awareness

My name is Alison Emery, and I am a Clinical Massage Therapist and Essential Somatics Movement Teacher.

My passion is helping people live free from pain and move with greater ease. I combine clinical massage with Somatic Movement to support lasting change in the body.

I’ve had a diverse career journey, beginning in nursing, where I qualified in 1991 and worked extensively with the homeless.

In 2010, I transitioned into massage therapy — a path inspired by my own experience with chronic back pain, caused by years of moving and handling in my nursing work. From the very beginning, I knew my passion was helping people find relief from pain.

My professional training led me to the Jing Institute of Advanced Massage in Brighton, where I completed a Level 6 BTEC degree in Sports and Clinical Massage in 2015. This experience allowed me to work with a wide range of clients dealing with various pain conditions. However, I noticed that many people’s symptoms would eventually return, and I became curious about why this happened.

That search for answers led me to Somatic Movement. In 2018, I began my training with Essential Somatics and qualified as an Essential Somatics Movement Teacher in 2020. To deepen my understanding and help clients further improve their movement and manage pain more effectively, I have since begun training in Clinical Somatic Education.
